Lee Seung-Jae

Moon Jee-Youn
Abstract
Herpes zoster is a disease caused by the reactivation of latent varicella zoster virus in spinal and cranial sensory ganglia after initial infection. Painful rash and blistering in the skin in affected dermatome are the typical clinical manifestations of the disease. Herpes zoster mainly occurs in the patients who have predisposing factors such as immunosuppression, old age, and so on. A few clinical case reports on herpes zoster after radiation therapy in solid cancer patients have been published. However, the clinical relevance of radiationtherapy to herpes zoster is still controversial now. To our best knowledge, there has been no case report of herpes zoster after radiation therapy in Korea. Therefore, we present the case of herpes zoster after radiation therapy in a breast cancer patient. This may raise the need of further study and arouse an attention to clinicians, especially to pain physicians, oncologists, and radiation oncologists.
